Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.01:12 01.05.16 | 1 comments
Remember when Gandhi gave up on peaceful protest and got India's independence by amassing an army and defeating the British? No, I don't either. Are you still naive enough to believe that violent change brings about good? Learn from history: Violence begets violence. Peace cannot come from war. Violence is not a good way to get heard--when people see a group committing a violent act for political reasons, they don't care about whatever message the group is trying to get across. They care about the fact that people were killed because of petty politics. The Palestinian cause has never progressed by "striking Israel where it hurts". The Haaretz talkback section is shameful, and attitudes like GC's will never bring peace.
