the first jewish temple was destroyed by the babylonians. the babylonian talmud was then written. the jerusalem talmud was written by jews remaining in the land. the jews returened from the exile in babylon and eventually built a second temple in jerusalem.. the second temple was destroyed by the roman. jewish history is amply proven through archeology and ancient historical texts. josephus flavius is one well known historian of jewish life during the roman period in the land of israel. the dead sea scrolls prove jewish presence in what is now referred to as the west bank. the jewish kingdoms issued coins, spoke hebrew, followed the laws of the hebrew bible, levied taxies and entered into treaties. the league of nations, the treaty of sevre and the san remo convention, all agree that the jewish people have a historical connection to the land of eretz israel. when the jews were taken captive by the romans and dragged to rome, they took huge treasures with them, plundered from the jews, including those from the jewish temple. the menora is still to be seen on the triumphal column of titus. jerusalem, tzfat, hebron tiberius were continually jewish throughout the ages. jews however were not allowed to return from exile by various rulers, most recently by the ottomans.
