I wouldn't condemn a Muslim student as unfit to serve as a representative simply because of her religion. That is, indeed, the exact type of bigotry we as Jews are trying to avoid ourselves. However, I would be cautious as to Miss Saifuddin's loyalties, most notably her strong commitment to Israel divestment. Let's just watch carefully and make sure that her opinions don't extend beyond Israeli organizations which have been widely proven to foster human rights violations in the region. As for Simone-you're absolutely right, the extension of the Israel-Palestine conflict to such a broad spectrum of issues is nonsensical. However, let's not forget your own history of leading J Street U with a (however veiled) anti-Israel bias. But I suppose your peers at Cal wouldn't have it any other way. Cheers!
