Being Palestinian I like to read Gideon Levy and Amira Haas most of the time. But I think Levy has some problems with his rationale in this piece. Israel and America were hated long before the Iraq war. Hatred of Israel began in 1948 (or at least the most recent episodes of it). And hatred of America has been around as far back as I can remember. America is the countyr that everybody needs, envies, would give their right arm to live in, but when standing afar off they look at and hate. There's no logical reason for it but it has always been. Unless America just gives money to everyone all the time (which it does) it will continue to be hated. We don't base our identity and self-percetption on people's opinions or else, we'd be bi-polar since there ar usually people who love us and hate us. If we really do somethign in the world, good or bad, they'll hate us. Beside that I hope Gideon Levy keeps writing nice articles about us.
