I think the thing here is that Israel doesn't want to legitimize Hamas by cutting a deal with the Hamas Government. So here's what to do. Israel will talk only with the Shi'ite Religious leaders in Gaza, if they are willing, and cut a deal with those guys, releasing Shalit, and keeping Meshal and Haniyeh in the backseat. Israel will put together a package with them that is acceptable by both sides. Then, if that works, the same formula can be used to negotiate with the Shi'ites in Lebanon, putting Hezbollah only in the background and putting the Shi'ite religious leaders in charge and granting them some respect. Then with Gaza and Lebanon under control, Israel can then reach out to the reformist religious leaders in Iran, thereby bypassing WWIII and a bunch of other headaches. Maybe even getting the Supreme Ayatollah and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad out of our faces for good. So in other words, every time a Muslim leader goes Hitler, Israel doesn't recognize that leader and instead goes to the Muslim Religious Leaders and recognizes those people instead. It could work to pressure Hamas to release Shalit. It could work to improve a lot of things over there. Signed... Yooooooooooosemite!
