Academics like Sand don't get the concept of multidimensionality. This is a common problem among academics. They create a simplified two-dimensional model that represents a particular viewpoint and then hark on about it for decades, regardless of whether or not it's valid beyond the particular data set used to generate the model, and regardless of whether or not there are competing models generated from other data sets that also seem perfectly valid to their inventors. Perhaps Sands model works for the French people, but there seem to be questions as to whether or not it works for the Jewish people. The problem is, the model isn't sufficiently multidimensional and completely misses the complexity of Jewish national identity.
