Conflicting views in the political arena is proper in any society, as well it should be. But such a statement, coming from the PMO?s office and the Shin Bet is worrisome in that it sets new parameters to what is, and is not, legitimate discourse, especially in light of the fact that Israel?s intelligence agencies have the power and willingness to carry on such a heavyhanded campaign through both ?legal? and extra-legal means. The level of authoritarianism implied by Diskin and Olmert bodes ill for the vary institute they claim to defend ? the democratic state of Israel - and leads one to pause and reflect on the true nature of this country.
