I don't believe the threat against him has diminished he is simply being allowed to become complacent (and an easier target). Mrs Bhutto said (shortly before being killed), that she never feared it because it would be against the principles of Islam. Likewise, his praise and confidence for the Arab spring may be another ruse by islamists to institute their 7th century concept of Statehood on the coat-tails of "democracy" like we're seeing play-out in Tunisia, turkey and Egypt. I don't share his optimism but I hope he's right. If you need a safe harbor Mr Rushdie, come to America where you'll find many "rushdies" and where, peering into our windows, you will write your great American novel both insulting and humoring us. We welcome your scrutiny. Oh, and please tell the once talented songwriter Cat Stevens that unless he retracts his endorsement of your murder, he is never welcome to return to America again. He is an enemy of freedom.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, February 16, 2016.

If Merkel also criticizes Israel, life is not a piece of cremeschnitte

The Israeli reaction to Der Spiegel's report on the German chancellor's frustration with Netanyahu was ridiculous, even Orwellian; as if Israelis were aliens who had just landed from another planet.

Boycott is the only way to stop the Israeli occupation

Aluf Benn's proposal for Israel's left to establish a base of domestic support for its positions is hopeless considering the brainwashing and increasing extremism of our society.
