Joking aside, Congress’s willingness – in this case eagerness – to invite a foreign chief executive to launch a policy debate from its podium seems to me incredibly degrading to US sovereignty. I can understand it if the subject was the bilateral relations of the two countries, but here Netanyahu will be talking about his policy towards a third party, likely out of synch with Obama’s announcement on the same subject. In short, the prime minister of a client state will be using the podium of the US legislature to argue against the president of the US. I know that Jews control much of the debate and electioneering in the US, but now we also know that the American people are totally lacking in national pride and dignity.
