Some of the most eloquent voices opposing the occupation come from Israeli academics. In this sense, Israel's universities are not dissimilar from America's during the Vietnam period. So why make war against the very Israeli institutions that most strongly support your anti-occupation views? I can still think of many ways to go on opposing the occupation but regard - boycott movements, especially this one, as counterproductive. For that matter they only reinforce the hatred in the world so hypocritically - if you've read Carlo Strenger's perceptive article in Haaretz - directed against Israel in many instances by those whose own misdeeds make Israel's seem minuscule...not that I think of them as such, but here I'm speaking of hatred. Strenger also points out, as I have many times, that prior to Netanyahu's reascension to power the Palestinians rejected significant Israeli peace offers. In light of the settlement expansions this makes me seriously question their sincerity about the urgency for making a lasting peace. In his present column Bradley Burston scours Jewish hate speech directed at Hawking, something that I too deplore. But what he fails to mention is that hate speech directed against Israel - and again increasingly at Jews - is far greater than anything a few rightists do making asses of themselves by lowering themselves to the others level. If he were here or in England, not in Tel Aviv and could personally witness the hatred, both institutional and otherwise, that's now directed at us I think he and others like yourself might be singing a slightly different tune. Sara Netanyahu's house of horrors

People who have the misfortune to work in the Prime Minister’s Residence live in a milieu of terror in its classic sense: a place in which fear and dread are imposed by means of violence, force and threats. This has now been established by a court ruling.
