I went a few years ago, and none of that sounds right. We did spend a fair amount of time going to museums and studying history, but the other half was meeting Israelis who were our age, going to various events, touring, even going clubbing. Soldiers in Israel carry weapons, but the rest of the population do not generally. I've seen more guns in Texas than I did in Israel. As for Gaza, we did indeed go along the green line and discuss relations with arabs. We did not however go in for obvious security reasons, especially since the year before we almost lost a participant in the dolphinarium bombing.
