There has been consistency in purpose by Israel since 48 to acquire control of much land as possible and to ethnically cleanse that land of the non-Jew as much as possible. Israel has weilded just enough violence to slowly gain control of land but not kill too many non-Jews - to just be below the international radar. Cast Lead is one big miscalculation as the violence inflicted by Israel didn't sit below the radar. And just who is going to stop the Zionist enterprise? Certainly not the USA or the EU. The only hope is international public opinion and Levy's analysis of Israel does contribute to scales falling from the eyes of those who formerly gave Israel uncritical support. As for Russia and China, I agree they couldn't give a tinkers, not only for a few homes in the West Bank, but the entire Palestinian people could disappear and this would barely register. But this is equally true for Israel as a Jewish state - neither Russia or China would attach any importance to Israel remaining a Jewish state or be unduly concerned for the well being of Israeli Jews.
