In Mein Kamph he recorded that a sudden overwhelming fear compelled him to flee the bunker he was hiding in moments before it and everyone inside it was destroyed by an artillery shell. Survivors guilt, his mother's death in spite of the efforts of a Jewish doctor, the Jesus vision of God who failed the German volk, all must have played a role in what he became.
