    1. Continue the US neocon project of imposing hegemony in the middle east and securing its oil resources 2. Derive some benefit from the disastrous policies of the monkey in the white house and his gang of criminal thugs in Iraq by any and all means 3. Deprive the Chinese from access to cheaper oil from both Iraq and iran, thereby buying a few more years before US balance of debt attains levels that cannot be sustained. In this diabolical plan, israel plays a key role as a hired hand, ready and willing bully, with its own purposes, namely - hanging on to its precious captured west bank territories. Looming over everything is the real scary scenario of the coming oil peak. The real story US is whispering in the European - and dubai - ears is that in the upcoming battles for this resource - it's every country for itself. Iraq was only the opening gambit. Iran is next for its covetted reserves. Nothing to do with Ahmadinejab. Naturally, Iran wants a bomb as deterrent. Wouldn't anyone?
