Tel Aviv is the most cosmopolitan and cultured place in Israel. Is it any wonder, therefore, that it is distancing itself from a colonial army whose main purpose is to keep one group of Arabs in permanent serfdom and then occasionally go in hard and heavy on lightly armed groups of neighbouring Arabs who get uppity. Today's IDF basically fulfills the same functions as the British Imperial Army in the Middle East in the 1920s. Obviously, if the endless occupation finally ended, all that might change, but with people with similar views to Harel now ruling Israel, don't expect it to change any time soon.
