I've watched this kulturkampf from a afar with bemused eyes for years. If the conflict is now "out there" it's been developing for decades. Yeshiva students studying into their thirties, avoiding the army and work while fathering large passels of children, accepting various forms of public assistance at the expense of a state they reject or at least ridicule. Social policy can reel in a considerable amount of this, though halakhah will always be king. It certainly seems like it's time to get to work. Ah yes, isn't Shas in the current government? Oh well. Another pressure point threatening the integrity of the state.
