Either way hurts. Either he's a quitter or he faces an embarrassing loss in his home state and is forever the butt of the joke that he can't even win his own state. Since Santorum is already known for losing by the largest margin in a re-election campaign in recent history, adding losing his own home state in a primary would be pretty bad. It's better that he be a quitter, giving up right before his own home state votes, than to be a loser in his own home state.
