What is ignored is that Hamas has passed this test already several times. There were well kept truces (also by radical groups) in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005-2006. All the time Israeli violence went on. All the time it was Israel refusing to react. All the time the truces came to an end by excessive Israeli violence like the killing of Shehadeh in 2002(including a large number of children). Early 2005 Hamas decided to go the political way, resulting in the elections in 2006 and the unity government in 2007. It was Israel that refused any talk. It is a bit upside down when Hamas is now asked to pass a test. It is rather the government of Israel that every time fails to pass the test by submitting Palestinians to excessive conditions, settlement expansion, keeping thousands in unlawful imprisonment, refusing any truce and continuing violence, etc.
