Somebody has to stand up to those right-wingers who deny their share of the responsibility for the terrorism that prevails in our homeland. Here are two quotes: Hanem #53: "If the left wasn't there; there would have been no Hamas today or terrorism for that matter." Ilan Toren #62: "The unsubstantiated claim of a connection between the "right" and hamas is as it sounds, an invention of the left." Let us look at some basic facts, fellows. Hamas was formed in December 1987, with the first Intifadah (uprising). The Prime Minister at the time was Likud's Yitzhak Shamir. The "Izzedin al-Qassam Brigades", Hamas' military wing, was created in 1991, and proceeded with shooting attacks against Israelis. This was still under PM Shamir. The first Hamas SUICIDE bombing, a new level of terror, occurred on 13 April 1994, on a bus in Hadera. This was preceded by the Goldstein attack in Hebron on 25 February 1994. Of course, Mr. Hanem makes up his history to suit his needs. I noted it before, in post #52. Mr. Toren is more cautious (and I commend him for that). But it doesn't take a genius to see a connection between the Goldstein massacre and Hamas' suicide bombing. Let me note that suicide bombing was invented by the Shiites in Lebanon. The Shiites are martyrdom oriented, while Hamas are Sunnis. But something finally got on their nerves. Mr. Toren, you are trying to excuse the Goldstein massacre as a reaction to the Lapid murders. How many people react to such tragedies by committing mass murder? It must have been a long process for Goldstein; the typical Kahanist dehumanization of the Arabs, and then his outpouring of anger. (You are probably not a Kahanist yourself, Mr. Toren. Why do you need to get involved in their defense?)
