What sense does it make to go half a century back? From 1948 till around 1990 Israel refused any talk to Palestinians. Talking could have lead to a solution if Oslo had lead to two states. Now Israel acted in bad faith by misusing quiet to double territory. Talking helped to obtain cease fires which were well kept by Palestinians but continiously broken by IDF raids (hudna, 2005, etc.). So now the US seems to be determined to go back to pre-1990 years of no talking in any case. Does that help to obtain a solution?
