In 1999-2000, Israeli PM Ehud Barak proposed Hafez Assad, Syrian dictator and the father of the current Syrian dictator, Bashar Assad, peace, based on internationally recognized border. Unlike the state of the things between Israel and Palestinians, were there has never been any internationally recognized boundary, Israel and Syria do have such boundary, and this is the boundary of British mandate, set up in 1922 by San Remo conference. Israel proposed to Syria peace agreement, based on this line, but Syria declined: it insisted on control over additional territory, which is outside the internationally recognized border, the land, occupied by Syria in 1948.
