Wrong. Begin and the Irgun were ideologically committed to the war against the Germans, and this is exactly the reason why the tiny Stern group broke off from the Irgun. Irgunists served in the Jewish Brigade in the British army throughout the war, and also mounted special operations on Britain's behalf. The statement in question is part of a letter sent by Avraham Stern to the German consolate in Beirut, but for which no reply was given.
