I can recall how after the 67 war on my first visit to Israel, the haredim would try to persuade my father to lay tefillin when we were at the Wall. Now that they are a powerful force within Israel, such things are unimportant to them. If one is approached now it is more likely to be asked to listen to a diatribe on why all the land should belong to the Jews. Oh, for those earlier days when they had not yet become crazed and arrogant with power!
