"...The horrors of the Holocaust hit Jews, Poles, POWS, Gays, cripples" So you are repeating this point of universalization as if we, who have been studyingthis chapter intensely for 60 years haven't noticed or are (obviously) brutaly uncaring. Well, meiner geehrte Graf, with all deep deep pain and anger at these additional German crimes, there was never any attempt to wipe out ALL Poles and Gays. How could their have been, when, for example, the extent of homosexual practice in the immediately preceding Weimar period was huge, and many SS were themselves practicioners? As for the cripples: Hopefully you know that the euthenasia program was halted as a result of mass protest by the German people--which, thus demonstrably possible, never came for the Jews. This tactic for universalizing the Jewish Holocaust only backfires, and proves the unwillingness or inability of almost all non-Jewish observers to grasp the point. The Jewish Holocaust was a planned attempt to seek out and industrially destroy every living Jew in the world, supported actively or passively by a very large chunk of the German people of the time and their creation, their leader. It is this attitude of refusing to understand that, and instead turning around blaming us for supposed mass solipsism or any other choice of how to remember, as much as the victimization shared with those other populations, which exemplifies why many of us sometimes seem insular, aloof, and obtuse. Anyways, neither you the unborn nor Joseph Ratinger the child are in need for absolution, but don't imagine you understand if you don't understand the pain this persons history may spark in some people.
