you obviously need a history lesson. you seem to be speaking "from the gut"—like george w. bush, and with a similar level of knowledge. (don't let facts get in the way!) for example, for most of the last 2000 years of the diaspora, and in most places, there were rules about where jews were allowed to live (that is, in separate villages or ghettos) and which occupations they were allowed to hold (not many). in the 20th century, the jews of germany were modern and relatively assimilated. 'nuff said? in the US, quotas were enacted at ivy league schools when merit-based admissions led to too many jews and horrified "the rest of us", to use your words. however, aside from facts presenting a problem for your thesis, there's also the question of who the f. are you to define the choices for a "small ethnic or religious group"? in fact, you'd fail to even define those terms. on that note, i hope you're not catholic (or anything else besides mainstream protestant), cuz if you are, you can expect to be distrusted and an outsider in the US and many parts of the western world—unless you're willing to give that up and set about proving your loyalty.
