As a photographer who has covered these kinds of events, I can appreciate the visual of the eager photographer trampling on the tomato plant; this essay put a smile on my face for its honesty. About the NGO situation Haiti: so much has already been said -- often poorly said -- about that since 2010 especially, and it seems the NGOs are scolded for their efforts. What are donors to do if the Haiti government is dysfunctional or corrupt or overwhelmed? One has to do something and start somewhere and it doesn't help to insult those who come to Haiti with a project or two. Lets have productive conversations about the overall dynamic of NGOs and local government and community input.
