Previous bloody riots against the regime in Egypt in 1977 were triggered by reduction in subsidies of basic staples such as flour. Today the riots are for general poverty, etc, so food prices should go DOWN, in other words, increasing subsidies. Of course, this is a short term solution to the riots, and will hurt the economy in the longer run, but first things first. If the US had understood Egypt, they would have offered Mubarak some more economic help. At this point, Egypt should talk to Saudi Arabia to finance the new subsidies. The Saudis must be quaking in their sandals at this point, and will be generous.
