Having a multi-party system is of course necessary for Democracy. What still needs to be changed is the way a president is elected. Presently, the Parliament decides who should be nominated for President, and then there is a vote by the people to approve or disapprove. The Parliamentarians may be subject to pressure and threats by the President, so the nomination choice is probably undemocratic. Syria should follow Egypt in allowing multi presidential candidates and a choice by the people. It will also be good to cut down the presidential term from 7 to 5 years, as France has done.
