I am fiercely pro-Israel. I may not like the current government, but I defend completely the right of the state of Israel to exist. This is not about that. This story brought me to tears, politics completely secondary. Have we become so wrapped up in our convictions, so blind, that we cannot set them aside for a moment to grieve for a dead child? To leap straightaway to refuting and defending and fighting is to abandon your humanity for your politics. Forget about justifying and rationalizing. Be human first and political second. Everyone who might comment afterwards, I say this to you too: don't use this as an excuse to attack Israel or defend Israel or get up on your soapbox. Be better than that. Please.
