Gilead was minding his own business. On patrol. Kidnapped by Terrorists as a bargaining chip. Five years has elapsed and nothing changes but now there is too much going on not to take action. Hamas has much more to lose than Israel. IF they don't free their prisoners from Israeli jails in exchange for one soldier they will be scorned by Joe Palestinian. The elections will never go in their favour. On the other hand if Hamas brings the terrorists home they will have won credibility among their own people. That could help them win an election. When the Hamas-Fatah government does turn into something real (more if) then Hamas will be forced to take steps to legitimize itself to the world.
