With polls ahead of Thursday’s mayoral election putting George Galloway on no more than 1%, we could be witnessing the welcome political demise of a malignant racist.19:43 02.05.16 | 0 comments
Gideon Levy is as usual the voice of reason. Too many Israelis hark back constantly to the past, sometimes 62 years, sometimes thousands of years. The present never seems to interest some of these people. So strong is the paranoia that they suffer a collective amnesia. Israelis need to update their views on Arab intentions declared in 1948. Since that, Egypt and Jordan, sworn enemies of Israel, have initiated exchanges which resulted in peace on those borders. To ignore this and continue ranting betrays a great deal of deceit. In 2003 and 2007 the Arabs offered a peace deal which a country desiring peace would not have ignored. To reject peace based on fairness and then moan about being unloved is silly really. The rejection has to be seen as a wish to continue this imperial mission which dooms the future of this country.
