Gideon, you seemingly make a very good case for heaping all the blame on Israel, which the Guardian readers of this world are haapy to lap up and swallow. You simplify the conflict with a reasoning which reduces everything to absurdity. Israel does not justify its actions because of "you started" , Israel did disenge and it could have been a new start, but not if it was just to create a new launching pad for more tunnels, rockets, kidnapping, and further rejection, which has been the Palestinian narrative of a century or more. The "what have I done syndrome" without expecting any reciprocity from the palestinians will prolong the conflict for a long long time. It is naive and ultimately destructive to expect only one side to recognise its faults, whatever they may be. Bad behavior and bad faith must acknowledge rules and boundaries otherwise it leads chaos. No play the game means no progress.
