the Government of Israel's position to the U.N. Security Council, in November 1968: " My government has indicated its acceptance (UNSCR 242) for the promotion of agreement on the establishment of a just and lasting peace. I am also authorized to reaffirm that we are willing to seek agreement with each Arab State on ALL MATTERS INCLUDED IN THAT RESOLUTION. " One of the most important term of that resolution included " withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict. (captured in June 1967). So it's not only a U.S. policy and one accepted globally, it was an Israeli agreed upon policy, which they also helped put in writing) to withdraw from the territory captured within 6 days for peace with all the Arab nations. Says it clearly there - also an Israeli initiative and wasn't dropped from the sky!
