What fatuous nonsense Gideon Levy spouts. Why do leftists engage in blame the victim rhetoric after these events? Did the British in 1940 wring their hands and ask what they had done to make Hitler so angry at them that he would lay waste to their cities? Islamic terrorism pre-dated the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and it will continue after those wars. The conflicts that Levy speaks of may be pretexts for the terrorism but they are not its cause. Its cause is a radical ideology that rejects Western values and celebrates murder. What will stop the terrorism is: (i) the determination of free societies to be steadfast in the face of attempts to intimidate and terrorize them; (ii) self-defence- including, unfortunately, bending noble ideals of civil liberties in the face of threats to our way of life, and here Britain has to realize that its tolerance of people like Abu Qutada, Abu Hamza, etc. has helped create a climate that gives rise to these atrocities; and (iii) the shunning and rooting out of extremists by Moslem communities. Unfortunately all of this will take a long time to accomplish. The simplistic slogans articulated by Gideon Levy and his ilk will not change that.
