The terrible thing about all this dual citizenship and loyalty is that the majority are wilfully blind to aspects about Israel that Ben Saul rightfully describes. The deniers lack critical ability, particularly compared to Israeli citizens themselves, where the debate is much more real. They seem to live in a fantasy world where Israel is idealized and supported in ways that are damaging to Israelis themselves, not to mention the victims of illegal Israeli government policies. They ignore history, accept mythical versions and biblical tales, and do not concern themselves with human rights. They are self-obsessive and counter-productive. Just like their vociferous American co-deniers. Perhaps the tragic suicide of a young man will help to make the Australian Jewish community get real.
