You can be Muslim and German. You can be genetically Turkish or Chinese and be German. You can't be Muslim and Jewish. You can't be genetically Turkish and Chinese and be Jewish - well I guess you could be theoretically, but even if you were converted, from what's said on Haaretz, you'd be looked down on by genetic Jews and probably wouldn't get Israeli citizenship anyway. Merkel has it totally wrong and it shows her pro-Israel bias, as do her comments that war crimes are nothing to worry about. Now if Merkel was talking about the German state under Hitler, she would have a point. Then you could be a citizen of Germany, but you wouldn't be regarded as properly German unless you were of Christian, genetically Germanic background.
