Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.01:12 01.05.16 | 2 comments
I think it is very interesting to read the discussion that is going on here in the talkback. 1) I do think that Germany has a problem with the growing number of partisans of the neo-Nazis. Let there be no doubt about it. And even though they are less here than in other European countries , they are a shame for our country. 2) I do not agree that the German media is biased in favor of the Palestinians. If I compare the German news media with the British (BBC, Guardian) or Haaretz and in some cases even the Jerusalem Post, then it is clear that the German media is a lot more careful to write critically about Israeli policies vis-a-vis the Palestinians. 3) Finally, I am really sad that some of the people living here in Germany have such a gloomy picture of the German public opinion. I will definitely pay more attention to that in the future. But I actually think that the reality is not all that bad.
