As a German Jew,living outside europe I find Germans quite ignorant of events. Many do not have a clear view of history and are guided by sensational journalism for opinion.Recently I invited a post war German couple for dinner. They were asounded to see the many German books and music records of my Holocaust generation parents in my bookshelves. To them I had a German home and were even more surprised to see my Jewish friends with german surnames. How is this possible that they are so ignorant? I guess the Wirtschaftwunder after the war took precedence over real education.Grass roots post holocaust contacts need to be established. My German friends who came for shabbat dinner said I was the first Jew they ever met. similar when I was invited to a News years party of German people I was also the first Jew they had socialised with. How is this possible?
