To Ephraim and other "Bush bashers": GW Bush has been a consistently strong supporter of Israel; so much so that the Arab allies of the US have become disaffected. As for his influence on Iraq, Iran and Syria, that remains to be seen. One fact is certain: Bush's polices caused Lybia to give up their nuclear program and their terrorist ways. With one year left in office, Bush has nothing to lose in the US politically right now. That's why this would be a good time for the Syrians to make a deal with him, unless of course they can't meet the opening bid that Condi Rice has already announced. But if they think they can get a better deal from a brand new US president, then they just do not understand US politics. Personally, I'm in no hurry. I've been to the Golan. It's a beautiful and peaceful place. So, if the Syrians don't want it back anytime soon, that's OK with me.
