At last a great piece that properly explores this topic. Thanks! Wish this article appeared in the context of the Ariel school affair, where only Sefrdi GIRLS were segregated. My opinion is that the creeping segregation will spill over to non-Haredi sectors and affect women's basic civil rights in this country. For that reason, the Knesset, parties, media, civil rights organizations, religious feminists and dayans, and the wide public should get busy with this problem, and fast. Serious protest is needed. As a woman, human being, and citizen, I am deeply offended by any gender segregation. Israeli society in general is still machoistic, though less so than 30-20 years ago, but it has never tolerated real segregation of the kind the ultra bigots are trying to impose now in their sector. Protest! With the Knesset propensity to pass sector-driven laws and the governments pliability in the hands of its religoius members, we can expect that this dark tide will not be stopped until there is wide discussion and pressure,
