Really, are you serious? You base a whole story about alleged discrimination of Yiddish at the NYT on a single anecdotical evidence? With your sole example being another word for arse? Well, it may come as a schocken for you, but in ten years of daily surfing the US internets, I never read that word, tuchus, before, and so I believe there is good reason for the editors to reecommend using another phrase that the average reader will understand. Btw, wasn't there a story about the diminishing role of Yiddish in Israel recently? Wasn't that here at Haaretz? Nu.
