Sure it was funny. I have no problem with English and Irish jokes that are equally insensitive, so I like to think I could laugh at this if I were Jewish. But, given the sensitive state of relations between the US and Israel at this point and the fact that many of Israel's enemies assume behavior like that mentioned in the joke (and worse) to be characteristic of all Jews, it was totally out of place and will just re-enforce the worst suspicions of both Jew-haters and Obama-haters. I suspect that it didn't do much for General Jones' standing within the Obama administration, which hardly needs another embarrassing gaff.
