Falafel became GLOBAL. It originated from Egypt. The Alexandrian names it Falafel and the Cairoian names it Ta'amyia. Our Alexandrian Jewish Community, Greek Community, Italian and French Community in Alexandria and Cairo were all exposed to Falafel. The famous "Benjamin" Falafel of Alexandria was the pride of the Egyptian Jewish community in Alexandria. The word "Ta'amyia" is an Arabic word that comes from "Ta'am" which in Classic Arabic means= Food. Enjoy it.
