    Howdy Fritz; 1) The prohibition of the acquisition of territory by war in the UN Charter only applies to lands which are (or are part of) sovereign states and not to lands which are contested or disputed. The West Bank and the Gaza Strip have not been parts of a sovereign state since the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1918. For the next 30 years the British Mandate of Palestine was administered as a protectorate of the U.K. and not part of a sovereign country. 2) The Palestinians were just as engaged (as irregulars) during the Israeli War of Independence as were the Arab armies. 3) In 1967, Egypt commited the first casus belli by imposing a naval blockade at the Straits of Tiran (thus, cutting off the Israeli port of Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba) which is an internationally recognized act of war under the Law of the Sea.
