When Rami Levy opened in Gush Etzion, most people were concerned about the effect it would have on local groceries. Only a small handful of very sheltered individuals expressed concern about "romances." Most of the Palestinian shoppers come as whole families, which leads to friendly interactions with Jewish shoppers, and the opportunity for each side to see the other simply as human beings. It has happened to me more than once that Arabs who can't read the Hebrew labels on products have asked me (with a smile) in English or in Hebrew to explain it to them. This simple and friendly interaction can only help lessen the mutual fears and suspicions of both sides.
