The issue of freedom of speech is often difficult. Yes, its a right to be safeguarded but like all rights, it is not absolute. For instance, libel and slander act to constrain people's right to say just what they like. Similarly, most Western states have legislation re 'hate' speech or incitement etc. As far as I'm concerned any rabbi who seriously ponders the question of when it is OK to kill a non-Jew (as distinct from when it is permissable to take the life of a human beging) should be quietly put in the corner to mutter to himself. But the real issue is that these rabbis are bringing Judeism into disrepute whilst on the payroll of the State. The only answer is separation of the state and religion. So much for the Zionist dream.
