Some 60 years ago, the Grand Mufti (who had established a large Muslim force to fight for the Nazis) was captured. He somehow "escaped" from France and ended up in the Middle East. France had some idea of re-establishing itself as a regional power; the Mufti was to help. Current policy is a mere extension of that failed plan; it too will fail no matter how many concessions the French are willing to make.
