I agree with much of what Prof Ajami said. On the question of King Abdalla breaking his promise to his dying father, the good Prof conveniently forgets what King Hussein had done the same thing when he replaced his brother with his son as heir. He had been given a blood transfusion and sent home by the Americans for precisely this purpose. Neither the US nor Israel wanted to see Prince Hassan on the throne. They wanted their own creature in Jordan as they did in each and every Arab country. As for peace with its Arab neighbours, Israel would do well to make its peace with the people instead of relying on dictators who could deliver neither peace nor the consent of their people. In fact Israel has missed an opportunity of supporting the Egyptian revolution which might have given it some credit and credibility in the eyes of the young people who had led it.
