Shamir ignored the Conservative (Masorti) and Reconstructionist branches. The former,until recently larger than Reform, is a major branch and the latter is very influentle. Reform's attraction is that it has adopted accoutrements of tradition in ritual and other things, such as wearing kippot, but with acceptance of paternal JID and without kashrut. And why not? The challenge for Jewish Israelis is in how to continue being Jewish in the global sense, that is along with the Jews of other countries, now that being Israeli is an ethnicity.
