Military power doesn't mean Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan. it doesn't mean wrongly understood asymmetrical wars, that cost the dear lives of children in coffins. Military power today, has to do with four elements, Obama's (and Bush's) USA sorely lack: 1. Understanding the mentality of those who want to kill innocent civilians, even by killing themselves. Understand their roots, their ideological collective conciousness and unconscious, with a long, impartial psychological, anthropological, political science study. 2. Understanding that eagles don't capture flies ("acquila non capit muscas") as the Romans used to say. 3. Understand that "engagement" is seen as weakness, and serves absolutely no practical purpose. 4. Engage where it is worthwhile engaging, in helping those in need, in their terms, and not paternally, (Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea now, for example). 4. Understand the very nature of asymmetrical warfare, and adapt the military power to that end, which means not exposing your soldiers to IED's and alley-battles when you have high-tech. 6 Make your humint 700% better, larger, deeper, reliable and more accurate, and finally, 7. Understand that the media and public opinion are part of the military power. If the perception is you won, you won; if the perception is you lost; then you lost. It isn't just or fair, but it is "vox populi, vox dei".
